NOVEMBER – Adoption Awareness Month
Welcome to November: Adoption Awareness Month. As this month unfolds, we will be posting daily articles about adoption and its many facets. In an ideal world, there would be no such thing as adoption. Children would have parents who are ready, willing and very able to provide good parenting, wannabe parents would be free of infertility challenges, and all biological parents would have the supports and resources they need to be able to parent and meet their child’s needs. We all know that this is not that ideal world. There are children without parents, adults who want to be parents but can’t, and parents who do not have what it takes to be the kind of parents their child needs or they want their child to have. Over the coming month we will be addressing many aspects of adoption, adoptive parenthood, birth parent experiences, growing up adopted, search and reunion, and more. Adoption is not a one-time event but rather a lifelong phenomenon which has joy and pain, loss and gain.
We, here at Milestones & Transitions, will also be holding weekly Facebook Live events to address questions about adoption. These will take place on November 7, 14, 21 and 28 at 10 am. If you have any questions you would like Betty Ann, Michaele-Sue or Pat to discuss, please post your question to us via our Facebook page or to our email [email protected].
